Concept design for the new ferries and catamarans operating on Lake Balaton released – PHOTOS
The concept design for the Balaton Shipping Company’s (abbreviated BAHART in Hungarian) new fleet have been completed, and the public procurement can start soon, said Zoltán Guller, the chief executive officer of the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
Index reported that the Szántód−Tihany ferry will be renewed, and the entire passenger and ferry fleet will be replaced in the following years. The main goal is to improve the connection between the two shores of Lake Balaton and to provide other alternatives in addition to car travel. According to the plans, the boats will comply with barrier-free standards, they will be air-conditioned and suitable for bicycle transport.

The new ferries and catamarans will be available for passengers presumably in 2021 or 2022 at the latest. The Hungarian Tourism Agency added that the port areas would also be renewed by 2022. The development will last until 2030, and it aims to enable the Balaton Shipping Company to perform European-level shipping tasks.
